General Manager Sue Murphy sleeping rough to raise funds to support our homeless community.
Firstly many thanks to the Team Members , Clients, family and friends who supported Sue’s participation in the CEO Sleep Out by donating to this very worthy cause. Following on from Trish’s participation in 2015 our combined efforts has now raised $7300.
The picture tells it all – the idea is to sleep rough just as an estimated 110,000 people do across Australia every night. However the difference for those participating in the CEO Sleep Out is the advantage in being clean, fed and safe something these 110,000 people do not have.
Sad fact is that the status of “homeless” now covers a cross section of the community from both genders, older individuals to teenagers or younger and solo parents with kiddies. Domestic violence, family breakdowns and un-employment are all contributing factors as well as substance abuse.
Your money has been well spent in supporting Saint Vincent’s work to get these people off the street as their approach is not just to hand out money but to ensure people regain their self-respect by making the right decisions for their own future.
So it is very much about support and advice to find housing, a job, staying alcohol and drug free if this is an issue, removing themselves from bad influences or violence and generally what options they have as individuals to take control and change their own lives.
Certainly you gain from the night both an appreciation and healthy respect for the great work done by the Saint Vincent team of whom a large number are volunteers. These people are making a huge difference and the funds we raised will contribute to their efforts.
Many thanks again for your support – trust we can count on your participation again next year.
